Narrative:

Approximately 8-10 mins after takeoff, the R1 door handle started to rise lowering the yellow 'armed' cover. An indicator light came on in the cockpit. First officer lowered the door handle, but could not arm door. Captain used adhesive tape to try and tape door handle down, but it did not work. Decision was made to divert to las to have door checked. Door examined and nothing was found unusual. We continued to jfk with no incident.
