Narrative:
Began flight by making several errors. This was compounded by an unexpected encounter with light icing and snow showers. After exiting IMC lost radio communication. I failed to follow proper procedure and switched squawk to 1200 instead of 7600 with the intention of landing VFR at an alternate airport. By recycling avionics, the intercom came back on line and I was able to reestablish communication. I reestablished communication with approach control and problem on visual approach was cleared for approachs but went too low and caused a low altitude alert for the controller. Upon landing I was asked to contact the tower which I did and we discussed my mistakes. This situation reminded me how important it is to stay familiar with basic emergency procedures and regulations. A more regular review would help avoid these errors.

Title: AFTER A BRIEF ENCOUNTER WITH WX A BE58 PVT PLT HAS PROBS SORTING OUT XPONDER CODES, RESTORING VHF COM AND PERFORMING A VISUAL APCH TO ALB, NY.
Narrative: BEGAN FLT BY MAKING SEVERAL ERRORS. THIS WAS COMPOUNDED BY AN UNEXPECTED ENCOUNTER WITH LIGHT ICING AND SNOW SHOWERS. AFTER EXITING IMC LOST RADIO COM. I FAILED TO FOLLOW PROPER PROC AND SWITCHED SQUAWK TO 1200 INSTEAD OF 7600 WITH THE INTENTION OF LNDG VFR AT AN ALTERNATE ARPT. BY RECYCLING AVIONICS, THE INTERCOM CAME BACK ON LINE AND I WAS ABLE TO REESTABLISH COM. I REESTABLISHED COM WITH APCH CTL AND PROB ON VISUAL APCH WAS CLRED FOR APCHS BUT WENT TOO LOW AND CAUSED A LOW ALT ALERT FOR THE CTLR. UPON LNDG I WAS ASKED TO CONTACT THE TWR WHICH I DID AND WE DISCUSSED MY MISTAKES. THIS SIT REMINDED ME HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO STAY FAMILIAR WITH BASIC EMER PROCS AND REGS. A MORE REGULAR REVIEW WOULD HELP AVOID THESE ERRORS.
