Narrative:

Given a crossing restr of 21000 ft by 15 NM northeast of tyi (tar river). First officer prompted captain (PF) rather late, that restr was near. Captain stated he misunderstood clearance. We were prompted by ATC. Missed restr by 2-3 mi and were about 1200 ft high when crossing actual fix. First officer should have alerted captain earlier, followed up by so, too.

Narrative: GIVEN A XING RESTR OF 21000 FT BY 15 NM NE OF TYI (TAR RIVER). FO PROMPTED CAPT (PF) RATHER LATE, THAT RESTR WAS NEAR. CAPT STATED HE MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC. WE WERE PROMPTED BY ATC.
