Narrative:
I was told to report a 2 mi right base for runway 5. During explanation of no flap landing to student, I failed to make call right at 2 miles out. I was waiting for frequency break to make radio call. When I was 1 mi out tower finished talking to other traffic and asked aircraft on final to state call sign. Being ready to make my call. I stated 'XXXX is on final runway 5.' tower said loudly 'you are not cleared to land, I repeat you are not cleared to land!' I initiated go around procedure and said 'XXXX going around.' tower said if you can land and hold short of runway 14, cleared to land and hold short of runway 14.' I said, 'we can land and hold short of runway 14.' attempting to give the student latitude to land we continued with a forward slip to a landing from 1/2 mi out. As we were approaching the midpoint of the runway, we still had excessive airspeed. Not wanting to have to perform hard braking, I initiated go around procedures, with an early right turn to stay clear of runway 14. I estimate 1000 ft of runway before intersection with runway 14 when turn complete. I saw traffic out 1 1/2 miles to 1 mi away entering downwind. Maneuvered and remained well clear of traffic. They did not alter course and proceeded to land. We received instructions to 'make right traffic and cleared to land runway 5 and lahso runway 14, and call the tower when on the ground. When I called tower, he complained about the density of our flight training in a heated manner. I feel he wants to make an 'example' of me!

Narrative: I WAS TOLD TO RPT A 2 MI R BASE FOR RWY 5. DURING EXPLANATION OF NO FLAP LNDG TO STUDENT, I FAILED TO MAKE CALL R AT 2 MILES OUT. I WAS WAITING FOR FREQ BREAK TO MAKE RADIO CALL. WHEN I WAS 1 MI OUT TWR FINISHED TALKING TO OTHER TFC AND ASKED ACFT ON FINAL TO STATE CALL SIGN. BEING READY TO MAKE MY CALL. I STATED 'XXXX IS ON FINAL RWY 5.' TWR SAID LOUDLY 'YOU ARE NOT CLRED TO LAND, I REPEAT YOU ARE NOT CLRED TO LAND!' I INITIATED GAR PROC AND SAID 'XXXX GOING AROUND.' TWR SAID IF YOU CAN LAND AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 14, CLRED TO LAND AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 14.' I SAID, 'WE CAN LAND AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 14.' ATTEMPTING TO GIVE THE STUDENT LATITUDE TO LAND WE CONTINUED WITH A FORWARD SLIP TO A LANDING FROM 1/2 MI OUT. AS WE WERE APCHING THE MIDPOINT OF THE RWY, WE STILL HAD EXCESSIVE AIRSPEED. I SAW TFC OUT 1 1/2 MILES TO 1 MI AWAY ENTERING DOWNWIND. MANEUVERED AND REMAINED WELL CLR OF TFC. THEY DID NOT ALTER COURSE AND PROCEEDED TO LAND. WE RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS TO 'MAKE R TFC AND CLRED TO LAND RWY 5 AND LAHSO RWY 14, AND CALL THE TWR WHEN ON THE GND. WHEN I CALLED TWR, HE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE DENSITY OF OUR FLT TRAINING IN A HEATED MANNER. I FEEL HE WANTS TO MAKE AN 'EXAMPLE' OF ME!
