Narrative:
While on a visual approach for runway 4R, we were given a sequence behind traffic on a 3 mi final for the same runway. We reported the traffic 'in sight.' at this point we were told to contact the tower. At the same time this was taking place we were accomplishing the 'before landing checklist.' somehow we were distraction and forgot to switch over to tower, resulting in a landing without a clearance. We held short of runway 4L, switched to tower frequency after realizing that we were on the wrong frequency. Tower gave us clearance to cross runway 4L and contact ground. This would have been prevented if we verified 'landing clearance' per checklist.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DISTR BY THE LNDG CHKLIST WHEN THE FREQ CHANGE TO HNL TWR WAS GIVEN THE FLT CREW FAILS TO MAKE THE CHANGE AND LWOC ON RWY 4R. THE ERROR IS DISCOVERED HOLDING TO CROSS RWY 4L AFTER LNDG.
Narrative: WHILE ON A VISUAL APCH FOR RWY 4R, WE WERE GIVEN A SEQUENCE BEHIND TFC ON A 3 MI FINAL FOR THE SAME RWY. WE RPTED THE TFC 'IN SIGHT.' AT THIS POINT WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT THE TWR. AT THE SAME TIME THIS WAS TAKING PLACE WE WERE ACCOMPLISHING THE 'BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST.' SOMEHOW WE WERE DISTR AND FORGOT TO SWITCH OVER TO TWR, RESULTING IN A LNDG WITHOUT A CLRNC. WE HELD SHORT OF RWY 4L, SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ AFTER REALIZING THAT WE WERE ON THE WRONG FREQ. TWR GAVE US CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 4L AND CONTACT GND. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF WE VERIFIED 'LNDG CLRNC' PER CHKLIST.
