Narrative:
Vectored for visual approach from south for runway 9R atl. Heading 030 degree at 3500 ft MSL. Approximately 1 to 1 pt 5 NM from interception of runway centerline, approach control cleared us for visual with a 60 degree cut on final approach. Duet ot overshooting crosswind at about 40 KTS, our aircraft flew through centerline and had 'near conflict' with B737 on final runway 8L. First officer flying, I was PNF. First officer selected 'automatic pilot' to let automatic pilot intercept final, but automatic pilot could not turn sharply enough. I told first officer to kick off automatic pilot and turn aircraft 'now.' he responded, but our flight path still brought us close to other aircraft. Approach control asked repeatedly if we had visual on B737. I had to make sure first officer was turning adequately and advise him so my response to approach control was not as timely as they may have liked. The B737 did not have to go around. Title: B767 OVERSHOOTS RWY 9R FINAL AT ATL, CONFLICTING WITH A B737, DUE TO TAILING WINDS AND LATE TURN TO FINAL BY A80.
Narrative: VECTORED FOR VISUAL APCH FROM SOUTH FOR RWY 9R ATL. HDG 030 DEG AT 3500 FT MSL. APPROX 1 TO 1 PT 5 NM FROM INTERCEPTION OF RWY CENTERLINE, APCH CTL CLRED US FOR VISUAL WITH A 60 DEG CUT ON FINAL APCH. DUET OT OVERSHOOTING XWIND AT ABOUT 40 KTS, OUR ACFT FLEW THROUGH CENTERLINE AND HAD 'NEAR CONFLICT' WITH B737 ON FINAL RWY 8L. FO FLYING, I WAS PNF. FO SELECTED 'AUTO PLT' TO LET AUTO PLT INTERCEPT FINAL, BUT AUTO PLT COULD NOT TURN SHARPLY ENOUGH. I TOLD FO TO KICK OFF AUTO PLT AND TURN ACFT 'NOW.' HE RESPONDED, BUT OUR FLT PATH STILL BROUGHT US CLOSE TO OTHER ACFT. APCH CTL ASKED REPEATEDLY IF WE HAD VISUAL ON B737. I HAD TO MAKE SURE FO WAS TURNING ADEQUATELY AND ADVISE HIM SO MY RESPONSE TO APCH CTL WAS NOT AS TIMELY AS THEY MAY HAVE LIKED. THE B737 DID NOT HAVE TO GAR. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS
