Narrative:
The departure was the teb 5 runway 24. The departure procedure was read at night in low light. The distance read was 1.5 mi before climbing from 1500 ft to 2000 ft. The actual distance on the departure plate was 4.5 mi before climbing from 1500 ft to 2000 ft. No resolution was given by TCASII. We were notified by ATC of our proximity to airline traffic on final for ewr. Our duty day was at approximately 10 hours, we were concerned about noise abatement and knew we had to climb fast. Bottom line: we misread the departure plate in low light, trying to save our night vision.
