Narrative:

Electric trim failure on departure. Accomplished a circuit breaker reset -- no effect to the problem. Returned to msp after declaring an emergency. Maintenance reported that it was the second report in 3 days. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the loss of stabilizer trim was limited to the main electric trim as alternate trim was operative. The reporter said this was the second report in 3 days of the main electric trim failure. The reporter stated maintenance took the airplane OTS but never communicated the corrective action or component failure.

Title: A DC9-50 IN CLB AT FL180 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO OF MAIN ELECTRIC STABILIZER TRIM. CAUSE UNKNOWN.

Narrative: ELECTRIC TRIM FAILURE ON DEP. ACCOMPLISHED A CIRCUIT BREAKER RESET -- NO EFFECT TO THE PROB. RETURNED TO MSP AFTER DECLARING AN EMER. MAINT RPTED THAT IT WAS THE SECOND RPT IN 3 DAYS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE LOSS OF STABILIZER TRIM WAS LIMITED TO THE MAIN ELECTRIC TRIM AS ALTERNATE TRIM WAS OPERATIVE. THE RPTR SAID THIS WAS THE SECOND RPT IN 3 DAYS OF THE MAIN ELECTRIC TRIM FAILURE. THE RPTR STATED MAINT TOOK THE AIRPLANE OTS BUT NEVER COMMUNICATED THE CORRECTIVE ACTION OR COMPONENT FAILURE.
