Narrative:

Made go around at 400 ft on 1/2 mi final to runway 22 lga. High winds with gusts to 25 KTS from 280 degrees during the lda approach required me to align early with the runway for a safe landing. While I was making this maneuver, tower cleared an air carrier B757 to take off on runway 31. There was a delay in the start of his takeoff roll, which I estimated would put us too close at the intersection had I landed. I elected to abort the landing at 400 ft and 1/2 mi. We missed the B757 by 200 ft vertically and because I turned left, behind him, we passed 1500 ft behind. This would have been a very close call had I landed.
