Narrative:
I was cleared to cross runway 9/27 and the approach end of runway 14/32 on taxiway F. (Note: the F' section of taxiway F is relatively new and it does not appear on the commercial chart airport diagram. In addition, due to the slope, it is difficult to see F' from the hold line on taxiway F, south of runway 9/27.) all previous taxi clrncs to get from taxiway F (south of runway 9/27) to my destination have included a very short taxi or runway 9/27 to the approach end of runway 14/32. I assumed, incorrectly, that this is what the controller intended. The ground controller paused, so I acknowledged my understanding of the taxi clearance. Unfortunately, the ground controller had not finished his transmission. Consequently, 1) I did not hear the balance of his transmission, which may have included information about the extension of taxiway F, and 2) the ground controller did not hear my transmission acknowledging my incorrect understanding of the clearance. The ground controller observed my error while on runway 9/27 and had me turn left onto runway 14/32. This runway incursion could have been avoided if the airport had distributed updated airport diagrams. Note: I learned, after the event, that updated airport diagrams were distributed by some to at least 1 of the flight schools on the field. Unfortunately, they were not distributed the hangar tenants.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A 'TRIN' PLT MISINTERPED A TAXI CLRNC AND TAXIED ONTO AN ACTIVE RWY AT ILG.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO CROSS RWY 9/27 AND THE APCH END OF RWY 14/32 ON TXWY F. (NOTE: THE F' SECTION OF TXWY F IS RELATIVELY NEW AND IT DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE COMMERCIAL CHART ARPT DIAGRAM. IN ADDITION, DUE TO THE SLOPE, IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE F' FROM THE HOLD LINE ON TXWY F, S OF RWY 9/27.) ALL PREVIOUS TAXI CLRNCS TO GET FROM TXWY F (S OF RWY 9/27) TO MY DEST HAVE INCLUDED A VERY SHORT TAXI OR RWY 9/27 TO THE APCH END OF RWY 14/32. I ASSUMED, INCORRECTLY, THAT THIS IS WHAT THE CTLR INTENDED. THE GND CTLR PAUSED, SO I ACKNOWLEDGED MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE TAXI CLRNC. UNFORTUNATELY, THE GND CTLR HAD NOT FINISHED HIS XMISSION. CONSEQUENTLY, 1) I DID NOT HEAR THE BALANCE OF HIS XMISSION, WHICH MAY HAVE INCLUDED INFO ABOUT THE EXTENSION OF TXWY F, AND 2) THE GND CTLR DID NOT HEAR MY XMISSION ACKNOWLEDGING MY INCORRECT UNDERSTANDING OF THE CLRNC. THE GND CTLR OBSERVED MY ERROR WHILE ON RWY 9/27 AND HAD ME TURN L ONTO RWY 14/32. THIS RWY INCURSION COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE ARPT HAD DISTRIBUTED UPDATED ARPT DIAGRAMS. NOTE: I LEARNED, AFTER THE EVENT, THAT UPDATED ARPT DIAGRAMS WERE DISTRIBUTED BY SOME TO AT LEAST 1 OF THE FLT SCHOOLS ON THE FIELD. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WERE NOT DISTRIBUTED THE HANGAR TENANTS.
