Narrative:

I filed an IFR flight plan from ZZZ to YYY. This was done via a computer. The problem was a temporary flight restr had closed the airport. It is inside the 10 mi radius of a nuclear plant. It was VFR weather and the ASOS reported only a southeast wind. I climbed to 3000 ft and called ZZZ approach, whom told me I had departed a closed airport. Although I thought I was educated enough on the airspace by using the internet, the only way to insure complete updates is a call to FSS.
