Narrative:
Cargo fire maintenance unit was removed from MD83 and installed on MD82 aircraft X. Aircraft Y MD83 uses part #X and MD82 uses part #Y. Wrong unit was installed on aircraft X. When error discovered, I notified MD80 technician at XA30 and informed my supervisor and acting manager. I was told by ZZZ maintenance that confign of aircraft X would be corrected at ZZZ1 before flight to ZZZ2. Departed at that time. I informed acting manager that the situation would be corrected at ZZZ1.
