Narrative:
We were en route to odo and landed without permission at maf. The problem arose by misident of maf as odo. Contributing factors: 1) ATC told us to change to advisory frequency. I questioned approach controller if odo had a tower. Approach said no tower at odo. Odo and maf are less than 10 mi apart. 2) approach failed to see us start down to maf. 3) I failed to believe my GPS. We found out we were at maf when we got to the FBO. Corrective action: 1) we called maf tower/ground and asked to go to odd. We were cleared by ground and tower and flew to odo without any problems. 2) better CRM. 3) called tower at maf who was unaware that anything had happened. Human consideration: poor CRM. We failed to work the issue out as a crew, even though the GPS was in question. Actions as captain on this flight: I had been to maf before, so I thought I was at the right airport.
