Left-hand engine had a compressor stall. Smoke and fire was sighted coming from it by crew and passenger in main cabin. Loud noise and moderate shaking of aircraft. Plane flown to lax, no evacuate/evacuation, normal landing.

Title: A B757 FLT ATTENDANT RPT ON AN ENG FAILURE, INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN, WITHIN 2 MINS AFTER TKOF FROM SNA, CA, AND A DIVERSION TO LAX, CA.
Narrative: L-HAND ENG HAD A COMPRESSOR STALL. SMOKE AND FIRE WAS SIGHTED COMING FROM IT BY CREW AND PAX IN MAIN CABIN. LOUD NOISE AND MODERATE SHAKING OF ACFT. PLANE FLOWN TO LAX, NO EVAC, NORMAL LNDG.
