Narrative:

I was not actually in the aircraft. My student was flying his required cross country flight for private rotorcraft helicopter. Student inadvertently went into class B airspace. ATC questioned student and student advised ATC he was a student pilot and they vectored him north back to his home airport outside class B airspace. Prior to the flight, I spent 1.5 hours in cross country planning with student. The entire flight path was well clear of class B. After the flight the student and I went over what happened. The student had been using dead reckoning but had not utilized the charts to help with pilotage. The student now understands the need to utilize charts and pilotage in addition to other aids. I also went over the class B boundaries with the student again.
