Narrative:
Departed charlotte to cover small forest fire in mountains of north carolina for local television news. After arriving in area, saw 1 helicopter with bambi bucket dropping water on fire. Remained 2000-3000 ft above aircraft and fire at all times while video-taping for approximately 5 mins. After landing, I was informed that temporary flight restrs had been imposed over the area from sfc to 10000 ft, 5 mi radius. I had assumed that a small fire like this wouldn't require flight restrs, but later realized that it was national forest and the feds are quick to put up restrs, well above what is normally required for a safe margin for aerial fire fighting. A thorough NOTAM briefing and less restrictive airspace would have prevented this airspace incursion.
