Narrative:
I was on my private pilot check ride. WX was at or barely above minimums at our class D airfield, and FSS was reporting marginal VFR over entire area. I did not believe we would actually fly that day. The designated examiner asked me what my decision was. I said not to go. He said correct, but let's go anyway. After takeoff en route to first check point, I said ceilings were low and we should return. Instead, he requested from ATC to go VFR on top. We received clearance and climbed on top. After flight maneuvers there, we called ATC and descended back below the layers to perform ground maneuvers and takeoff and lndgs at an uncontrolled field. Then we returned to our home airfield. Despite the good outcome of the chkride, I believe I should have stood my ground against flying in such marginal WX.

Title: C172 STUDENT PLT TOOK HIS PVT PLT RATING RIDE ON A DAY THAT HAD REDUCED VISIBILITY AND LOW CEILINGS.
Narrative: I WAS ON MY PVT PLT CHK RIDE. WX WAS AT OR BARELY ABOVE MINIMUMS AT OUR CLASS D AIRFIELD, AND FSS WAS RPTING MARGINAL VFR OVER ENTIRE AREA. I DID NOT BELIEVE WE WOULD ACTUALLY FLY THAT DAY. THE DESIGNATED EXAMINER ASKED ME WHAT MY DECISION WAS. I SAID NOT TO GO. HE SAID CORRECT, BUT LET'S GO ANYWAY. AFTER TKOF ENRTE TO FIRST CHK POINT, I SAID CEILINGS WERE LOW AND WE SHOULD RETURN. INSTEAD, HE REQUESTED FROM ATC TO GO VFR ON TOP. WE RECEIVED CLRNC AND CLBED ON TOP. AFTER FLT MANEUVERS THERE, WE CALLED ATC AND DSNDED BACK BELOW THE LAYERS TO PERFORM GND MANEUVERS AND TKOF AND LNDGS AT AN UNCTLED FIELD. THEN WE RETURNED TO OUR HOME AIRFIELD. DESPITE THE GOOD OUTCOME OF THE CHKRIDE, I BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE STOOD MY GND AGAINST FLYING IN SUCH MARGINAL WX.
