Narrative:
At ZZZ airport we had maintenance replace our MCP. There was a rush to get us on our way so the mechanic said he was not going to do an operations check. He said the CAT III system would work, however, he opted not to do the check because the CAT ii system was fully operational. We were launching to a VFR destination and did not believe our afpam was affected. Dispatch did not issue and we did not ask for a new release. After review with maintenance and dispatch, I feel I misunderstood the status of our CAT III system and given the situation again would have insisted on a new release.
