Narrative:

We have had many complaints about the ZLA handling upon arrival (FL180). ATC cleared us mitts arrival runway 24R. Arnes at 12000 ft. 1 min later he reclrs us runway 25L, via civet intercept the runway 25 localizer. I, PNF, reprogrammed the box, but it is a mad house. He asks if we need help (stair-step on the STAR). The box (FMC) goes nuts. We are just at transition point, so we don't get the descent and approach checks done until we are at 14000 ft. With FMC aircraft it's very hard to change stuff once it is in the box, also very dangerous.

Title: A B752 CREW, DSNDING INTO LAX, WERE GIVEN A DIFFERENT ARR LATE IN THE DSCNT, WHICH REQUIRED REPROGRAMMING OF THE FMC, THIS IN TURN DISTRACTED FROM THE NORMAL CHKLIST USAGE WHICH IS A SAFETY ITEM.
