Narrative:

Clearance and takeoff clearance given by tower at jqf (concord regional). Initial contact with approach was alright. After this, we (crew) could hear, but no xmissions were being emitted. Several approach xmissions were acknowledged by squawk of transponder. The crew squawked 7600 and returned to jqf under VMC and being cleared by approach and jqf tower for landing. On occasions, a crew of other aircraft said to approach that we were attempting to contact them. Avionics personnel determined that 1 radio was responsible for the problem. The crew had tried every combination in cockpit in an effort to communicate -- even changing to oxygen masks! Lesson: carry a handheld in even 'big iron' aircraft!
