Narrative:
Called pbi ready for takeoff runway 8. Tower was extremely busy with much VFR traffic. He called us to be ready for position and hold as soon as he got our departure release. Some of the transmission was garbled/stepped on. He took the transmission as position and hold and taxied onto the active. As soon as we did, we were told to exit, did so. No apparent problems or consequences occurred. Got our clearance and took off. Looking back, we should have asked for clarification of an unclr communication.
