Narrative:
Did flight planning for solo VFR direct to ZZZ2. I knew of special airspace effective for an event on fri. I took it for granted that it had taken place that day. Believing special extended airspace to be clear, I departed en route to ZZZ3 on 12/tue/01, from ZZZ4. My course was north and outside normal special use airspace. Extended airspace only because of 09/tue/01 attacks. I was unaware that the event had not ended. At XA00 hours, I observed two F16 aircraft circling over head. I chose to land to investigate. I called on 121.5, but with no response. A local sheriff informed me that the extended airspace was still active and directed me to follow his aircraft to ZZZ5. I waited on the ground until the event ended 12/wed/01 evening. I then flew the same route on 12/thu/01. I had purchased the aircraft and was ferrying it empty and solo to my home in ZZZ3. 'Osama bin ladin's extended airspace' is confusing in light of pres bush's order for us to assume normal activities.

Title: EXPECTING THE TEMPORARY EXTENDED AIRSPACE RESTRICTION TO NO LONGER BE VALID SINCE THE ACTIVITY IT WAS SET UP FOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETED THE PREVIOUS DAY, THE PLT ENTERED THE AIRSPACE ONLY TO FIND THE EVENT HAD BEEN DELAYED AND THE RESTR WAS STILL IN PLACE. RESULT WAS AN INTERCEPT AND DIVERSION.
