Narrative:
At gmu, runways 1/19 are closed for repair from dec/sat/01 to feb/fri/02. I contacted ground control from the southwest ramp. I was told to taxi to runway 28. I was not aware that I could taxi to runway 28 without crossing the active. I stopped at the active runway and looked to be sure it was clear. There was no other aircraft on the runway or on final. I crossed the active runway 10/28 and proceeded to taxi to runway 28. The tower asked if I had just crossed the active and I replied that I had. I knew at that point that I had made a mistake. The ground controller informed me that taxiway D was open and there was no need to cross runway 10/28. I was not sure if this taxiway was open due to the construction on runway 1/19. I believe the problem was caused by my lack of information concerning the runway closures and taxiway closures. I have since gotten the correct information to prevent this from happening in the future.

Title: A PA28 PLT, TAXIING FOR TKOF AT GMU, TAXIED ACROSS THE ACTIVE RWY.
Narrative: AT GMU, RWYS 1/19 ARE CLOSED FOR REPAIR FROM DEC/SAT/01 TO FEB/FRI/02. I CONTACTED GND CTL FROM THE SW RAMP. I WAS TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 28. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT I COULD TAXI TO RWY 28 WITHOUT XING THE ACTIVE. I STOPPED AT THE ACTIVE RWY AND LOOKED TO BE SURE IT WAS CLR. THERE WAS NO OTHER ACFT ON THE RWY OR ON FINAL. I CROSSED THE ACTIVE RWY 10/28 AND PROCEEDED TO TAXI TO RWY 28. THE TWR ASKED IF I HAD JUST CROSSED THE ACTIVE AND I REPLIED THAT I HAD. I KNEW AT THAT POINT THAT I HAD MADE A MISTAKE. THE GND CTLR INFORMED ME THAT TXWY D WAS OPEN AND THERE WAS NO NEED TO CROSS RWY 10/28. I WAS NOT SURE IF THIS TXWY WAS OPEN DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION ON RWY 1/19. I BELIEVE THE PROB WAS CAUSED BY MY LACK OF INFO CONCERNING THE RWY CLOSURES AND TXWY CLOSURES. I HAVE SINCE GOTTEN THE CORRECT INFORMATION TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE.
