Narrative:
I was cleared for the rythm.RYTHM3 arrival and was told to expect the ILS runway 18R at new. I flew direct to the mccomb VOR and once there proceeded outbound on the 173 degree radial. I have never done a STAR and thought that I was cleared down to the MEA of 2000 ft. I began descending out of 5000 ft and at 4100 ft I realized I was wrong. I called approach and asked them if I was cleared to 2000 ft. They said 'no, maintain 5000 ft.' I immediately began a climb to 5000 ft.
