Narrative:
We were taxiing to runway 35 from the GA area at slc airport. A winter snow storm was just moving out of the area and light snow was falling with a visibility of approximately 2 mi. Snow removal was in progress and 2 large snow removal machines were working the area that we were taxiing in. I thought that we were still on the FBO ramp entering a taxiway, but we were in fact already on the taxiway and entering an active runway. I did notice my mistake and brought the aircraft to a stop, but not before we had passed the holding point. The aircraft stopped without main wheels past the hold short line. We requested an entry and back track on ground frequency and was put onto tower frequency and was given an intersection takeoff clearance. I believe that the preoccupation with the snow removal equipment and the totally snow covered ramp and taxiway area along with the reduced visibility all contributed. Obviously, our lack of vigilance played a major part.

Title: THE CREW OF A CPR ACFT, TAXIING FOR TKOF AT SLC WITH SNOW COVERED RAMPS, THOUGHT THEY WERE ON THE RAMP WHEN IN FACT THEY WERE ON A TXWY PAST THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE.
Narrative: WE WERE TAXIING TO RWY 35 FROM THE GA AREA AT SLC ARPT. A WINTER SNOW STORM WAS JUST MOVING OUT OF THE AREA AND LIGHT SNOW WAS FALLING WITH A VISIBILITY OF APPROX 2 MI. I THOUGHT THAT WE WERE STILL ON THE FBO RAMP ENTERING A TXWY, BUT WE WERE IN FACT ALREADY ON THE TXWY AND ENTERING AN ACTIVE RWY. I DID NOTICE MY MISTAKE AND BROUGHT THE ACFT TO A STOP, BUT NOT BEFORE WE HAD PASSED THE HOLDING POINT. THE ACFT STOPPED WITHOUT MAIN WHEELS PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE. WE REQUESTED AN ENTRY AND BACK TRACK ON GND FREQ AND WAS PUT ONTO TWR FREQ AND WAS GIVEN AN INTXN TKOF CLRNC. I BELIEVE THAT THE PREOCCUPATION WITH THE SNOW REMOVAL EQUIP AND THE TOTALLY SNOW COVERED RAMP AND TXWY AREA ALONG WITH THE REDUCED VISIBILITY ALL CONTRIBUTED. OBVIOUSLY, OUR LACK OF VIGILANCE PLAYED A MAJOR PART.
