Narrative:
We received clearance of hamilton 6 departure, chaka transition from st croix tower prior to taxi. The ATIS recording highlighted the need to avoid overflying the oil refinery after takeoff, and both the obstacle departure procedure and the transition require a climb on runway heading and then a left turn at 1400 ft. Immediately after takeoff clearance was given, we were told 'runway heading' as we took the runway. After takeoff, we maintained runway heading until 1400 ft and continued with the transition, turning left and avoiding the oil refinery. About 2 mins after takeoff, ATC informed us that traffic was off our right and asked whether or not tower had issued runway heading. Briefing and executing the departure received by tower in the initial communication with clearance delivery in addition with the ATIS warning emphasizing avoidance of the oil refinery, had caused us to misunderstand the last second issuance of runway heading as we crossed the hold short line. Tower did not advise us of traffic in the vicinity which perhaps would have jolted us out of a fixation to fly the clearance as published and received. No collision threat existed that we were aware of and at no time did our TCASII alert to the contrary. The flight continued without further incident. From now on, more are will be taken on my part to verify last min changes to clrncs received and inquire as to any doubts prior to taking the active runway.

Title: ZSU CTLR QUESTIONS AT42 FLC TRACK DEV AFTER DEPARTING X67 ARPT.
Narrative: WE RECEIVED CLRNC OF HAMILTON 6 DEP, CHAKA TRANSITION FROM ST CROIX TWR PRIOR TO TAXI. THE ATIS RECORDING HIGHLIGHTED THE NEED TO AVOID OVERFLYING THE OIL REFINERY AFTER TKOF, AND BOTH THE OBSTACLE DEP PROC AND THE TRANSITION REQUIRE A CLB ON RWY HDG AND THEN A L TURN AT 1400 FT. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF CLRNC WAS GIVEN, WE WERE TOLD 'RWY HDG' AS WE TOOK THE RWY. AFTER TKOF, WE MAINTAINED RWY HDG UNTIL 1400 FT AND CONTINUED WITH THE TRANSITION, TURNING L AND AVOIDING THE OIL REFINERY. ABOUT 2 MINS AFTER TKOF, ATC INFORMED US THAT TFC WAS OFF OUR R AND ASKED WHETHER OR NOT TWR HAD ISSUED RWY HDG. BRIEFING AND EXECUTING THE DEP RECEIVED BY TWR IN THE INITIAL COM WITH CLRNC DELIVERY IN ADDITION WITH THE ATIS WARNING EMPHASIZING AVOIDANCE OF THE OIL REFINERY, HAD CAUSED US TO MISUNDERSTAND THE LAST SECOND ISSUANCE OF RWY HDG AS WE CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. TWR DID NOT ADVISE US OF TFC IN THE VICINITY WHICH PERHAPS WOULD HAVE JOLTED US OUT OF A FIXATION TO FLY THE CLRNC AS PUBLISHED AND RECEIVED. NO COLLISION THREAT EXISTED THAT WE WERE AWARE OF AND AT NO TIME DID OUR TCASII ALERT TO THE CONTRARY. THE FLT CONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. FROM NOW ON, MORE ARE WILL BE TAKEN ON MY PART TO VERIFY LAST MIN CHANGES TO CLRNCS RECEIVED AND INQUIRE AS TO ANY DOUBTS PRIOR TO TAKING THE ACTIVE RWY.
