Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation |
Narrative:
We were on final practicing an ILS approach we were cleared to land behind the aircraft in front of us. I overhead on the radio ATC trying to contact an aircraft. It sounded like he was about to cut us off on final. Just before ATC contacted me, I saw the traffic on base and he was about to cut in front of us on final. I dipped down slightly to avoid getting too close and once I saw him turning final, I turned out to the left (west) to avoid him, just as tower had the opportunity to give me instructions. I circled around back to final, per instructions by the tower and was then cleared to land again. At no time during the incident was tower able to establish contact with the other aircraft. I never felt in extreme danger, but he did get within about 300 ft or 400 ft from me. I decided to make the deviation only after I was sure what he was going to do.
