Narrative:
Operating air carrier X flight abcd ZZZ-pvd, jan/sun/02, encountered moderate to occasional severe turbulence approximately 10 NM southwest of the FAF to runway 5R at pvd while being vectored for an ILS approach. No convective activity was present on our WX radar. Only returns indicating light rain. Vectors through the localizer course to the east were obtained away from all precipitation after learning from approach control that an air carrier Y airlines flight reported moderate turbulence over the FAF on their approach to runway 5R. We felt that because of the level of turbulence, a safe approach could not be conducted. Still encountering constant moderate turbulence, vectors to the south were then obtained with a climb to 8000 ft and later 10000 ft where conditions improved. During that time, first officer briefed flight attendants and passenger on our status via the PA. WX information was obtained for our alternates of bdl and bos. With bdl reporting 3/4 mi, bos visibility 4 mi, and ride conditions improving, decision to divert to bos was made and clearance obtained. Dispatcher was contacted through pvd operations and concurred. While being vectored to bis, first officer contacted 'a' flight attendant via interphone to check on flight attendants and passenger, and was informed by 'a' flight attendant that a female passenger was going into shock. An emergency was then declared with pvd approach control, explaining the nature of the emergency was an ill passenger going into shock, and requested paramedics to meet flight in bos. Experiencing light turbulence, an ILS approach to runway 4R was made with uneventful landing and taxi to gate where ambulances and paramedics met the flight. The passenger was taken from the aircraft on a straight-back chair -- her daughter, who was sick, walked off aircraft and was tended to by paramedics. Both were transported to a hospital. Dispatcher was contacted on jetway phone for briefing and a logbook write-up 'encountered moderate to occasional severe turbulence on arrival into pvd at 4000 ft MSL, diverted to bos' was made in the aircraft maintenance logbook.

STILL ENCOUNTERING CONSTANT MODERATE TURB, VECTORS TO THE S WERE THEN OBTAINED WITH A CLB TO 8000 FT AND LATER 10000 FT WHERE CONDITIONS IMPROVED. DURING THAT TIME, FO BRIEFED FLT ATTENDANTS AND PAX ON OUR STATUS VIA THE PA. WX INFO WAS OBTAINED FOR OUR ALTERNATES OF BDL AND BOS. WITH BDL RPTING 3/4 MI, BOS VISIBILITY 4 MI, AND RIDE CONDITIONS IMPROVING, DECISION TO DIVERT TO BOS WAS MADE AND CLRNC OBTAINED. DISPATCHER WAS CONTACTED THROUGH PVD OPS AND CONCURRED. WHILE BEING VECTORED TO BIS, FO CONTACTED 'A' FLT ATTENDANT VIA INTERPHONE TO CHK ON FLT ATTENDANTS AND PAX, AND WAS INFORMED BY 'A' FLT ATTENDANT THAT A FEMALE PAX WAS GOING INTO SHOCK. AN EMER WAS THEN DECLARED WITH PVD APCH CTL, EXPLAINING THE NATURE OF THE EMER WAS AN ILL PAX GOING INTO SHOCK, AND REQUESTED PARAMEDICS TO MEET FLT IN BOS. EXPERIENCING LIGHT TURB, AN ILS APCH TO RWY 4R WAS MADE WITH UNEVENTFUL LNDG AND TAXI TO GATE WHERE AMBULANCES AND PARAMEDICS MET THE FLT. THE PAX WAS TAKEN FROM THE ACFT ON A STRAIGHT-BACK CHAIR -- HER DAUGHTER, WHO WAS SICK, WALKED OFF ACFT AND WAS TENDED TO BY PARAMEDICS. BOTH WERE TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL.
