Narrative:
Landed at msp, VFR. As we taxied in and called msp operations, they asked us if we would object to being marshalled in to gate such that our wingtip would overlap by a few ft an rj wingtip (due to a shortage of gate space). We agreed. Our right wingtip came within approximately 5 ft of right engine. This practice should be discontinued. It leaves virtually no margin for error. With the best linemen and wingwalkers in the word, you might not be able to stop in time if there was a problem.
