Narrative:
Sudden TCASII yellow box accompanied by traffic alert at less than 1 mi, then immediately followed by RA and instructions to climb. Target showed at 30600 ft, perhaps higher very briefly. We followed guidance, advised ZHU who seemed as alarmed as us. He told us to do what we needed, advised us there was a hot scramble in process, and attempted contact with the fighter, apparently on UHF, because we never heard the replies. We never saw the aircraft and probably only climbed 200-300 ft before returning to normal flight. We never saw him or heard more about him. ZHU apologized for nearness, and led us to understand that he did not have him until we called about him. No injuries encountered while avoiding.

Title: B777 FLC CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA CAUSED BY AN UNKNOWN ACFT IN A SCRAMBLE FOR AN INTERCEPT.
Narrative: SUDDEN TCASII YELLOW BOX ACCOMPANIED BY TFC ALERT AT LESS THAN 1 MI, THEN IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY RA AND INSTRUCTIONS TO CLB. WE NEVER SAW THE ACFT AND PROBABLY ONLY CLBED 200-300 FT BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL FLT. WE NEVER SAW HIM OR HEARD MORE ABOUT HIM. ZHU APOLOGIZED FOR NEARNESS, AND LED US TO UNDERSTAND THAT HE DID NOT HAVE HIM UNTIL WE CALLED ABOUT HIM. NO INJURIES ENCOUNTERED WHILE AVOIDING.
