Narrative:
Tower for runway 18L was pumping the aircraft out with very close spacing. We were just making the turn into position when cleared for takeoff. The MD80 ahead of us was just at the 1000 ft markers on the runway, nowhere near his rotation point. We took our time for a little more spacing, but after takeoff, we were right in his wake. Asked departure for a bit of a turn left or right to get out of the wake. They gave us 5 degrees left. Spacing was too close.
