Narrative:
While holding short for takeoff runway 7L at phx, the tower asked if we could accept runway 7R. We checked the numbers and responded that we could accept runway 7R. We were cleared to cross runway 7L and position and hold runway 7R. At this point I was heads down completing the final items on the checklist and briefing the PF as to the changes on the departure. As we lined up, we were cleared for takeoff and told to report traffic in sight off the parallel. The power was advanced and I was dividing my attention between the traffic and the instruments/callouts. Almost immediately, tower canceled our takeoff clearance. It then became apparent that we had, in fact, lined up on the taxiway -- not the runway. Possible cause: last min change to runway and departure procedures. Pilot workload. Attempting to make changes and take the runway at the same time.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BAE125 HAWKER CREW MISTAKENLY LINED UP ON TXWY AND STARTED TKOF UNTIL TWR CTLR NOTICED ERROR AND CALLED FOR AN IMMEDIATE ABORT.
Narrative: WHILE HOLDING SHORT FOR TKOF RWY 7L AT PHX, THE TWR ASKED IF WE COULD ACCEPT RWY 7R. WE CHKED THE NUMBERS AND RESPONDED THAT WE COULD ACCEPT RWY 7R. WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS RWY 7L AND POS AND HOLD RWY 7R. AT THIS POINT I WAS HEADS DOWN COMPLETING THE FINAL ITEMS ON THE CHKLIST AND BRIEFING THE PF AS TO THE CHANGES ON THE DEP. AS WE LINED UP, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF AND TOLD TO RPT TFC IN SIGHT OFF THE PARALLEL. THE PWR WAS ADVANCED AND I WAS DIVIDING MY ATTN BTWN THE TFC AND THE INSTS/CALLOUTS. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, TWR CANCELED OUR TKOF CLRNC. IT THEN BECAME APPARENT THAT WE HAD, IN FACT, LINED UP ON THE TXWY -- NOT THE RWY. POSSIBLE CAUSE: LAST MIN CHANGE TO RWY AND DEP PROCS. PLT WORKLOAD. ATTEMPTING TO MAKE CHANGES AND TAKE THE RWY AT THE SAME TIME.
