Narrative:
Failed to do a 'before start' checklist before pushing back the plane. We had a slot time for our oceanic clearance and I was anxious to get going. Normal cues were in place. It was simply an oversight. The flow to do things such as turning on the beacon and seatbelt sign was also omitted. (Checklist comes after flow -- then do check.) I caught the beacon before taxiing onto the runway. Flight attendants notified us that the seatbelt sign was not on around 5000 ft on climb out. The first officer and so also missed doing the checklist. Lesson: follow SOP and don't rush!

Title: DC10 FLC FAILED TO TURN THE ROTATING BEACON AND FASTEN SEATBELT SIGN PRIOR TO TAXI AND TKOF.
Narrative: FAILED TO DO A 'BEFORE START' CHKLIST BEFORE PUSHING BACK THE PLANE. WE HAD A SLOT TIME FOR OUR OCEANIC CLRNC AND I WAS ANXIOUS TO GET GOING. NORMAL CUES WERE IN PLACE. IT WAS SIMPLY AN OVERSIGHT. THE FLOW TO DO THINGS SUCH AS TURNING ON THE BEACON AND SEATBELT SIGN WAS ALSO OMITTED. (CHKLIST COMES AFTER FLOW -- THEN DO CHK.) I CAUGHT THE BEACON BEFORE TAXIING ONTO THE RWY. FLT ATTENDANTS NOTIFIED US THAT THE SEATBELT SIGN WAS NOT ON AROUND 5000 FT ON CLBOUT. THE FO AND SO ALSO MISSED DOING THE CHKLIST. LESSON: FOLLOW SOP AND DON'T RUSH!
