Narrative:
We were climbing out of cle. Our clearance had us flying runway heading initially. Our first clearance fix was akron VOR. Cle departure then cleared us direct akron. We put direct to akron into the FMS and proceeded to fly the course. Soon departure told us we were on the wrong heading for akron. We rechked the FMS and found we had entered the akron, co, identify (ako) instead of akron, oh, (aco). The incident could have been avoided by checking the FMS coordinates more closely.
