Narrative:
Location: ord. On taxi out, lmfdu message of wing anti-ice. Per checklist, we shut off #1 bleed and APU bleed. Warning cleared. First officer and jump seat rider suggested we return to gate. Since the warning didn't appear after going bleeds back on, I elected to continue with the flight. After airborne, I discovered that the checklist required a return to gate with this warning even if it had cleared. My mistake -- since I didn't read checklist properly. Supplemental information from acn 536709: in addition, the taxi and procedure were interrupted trying to obtain contaminated runway data. En route after things had calmed down the captain read the checklist procedure and stated that he misinterped the return to gate instruction.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN FK100 PIC CONTINUES THE FLT AFTER PERFORMING AN EMER CHKLIST FOR A WING ANTI-ICE FAULT IN SPITE OF THE FO'S AND JUMP SEATER'S ADVICE TO RETURN TO THE RAMP FOR MAINT.
Narrative: LOCATION: ORD. ON TAXI OUT, LMFDU MESSAGE OF WING ANTI-ICE. PER CHKLIST, WE SHUT OFF #1 BLEED AND APU BLEED. WARNING CLRED. FO AND JUMP SEAT RIDER SUGGESTED WE RETURN TO GATE. SINCE THE WARNING DIDN'T APPEAR AFTER GOING BLEEDS BACK ON, I ELECTED TO CONTINUE WITH THE FLT. AFTER AIRBORNE, I DISCOVERED THAT THE CHKLIST REQUIRED A RETURN TO GATE WITH THIS WARNING EVEN IF IT HAD CLRED. MY MISTAKE -- SINCE I DIDN'T READ CHKLIST PROPERLY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 536709: IN ADDITION, THE TAXI AND PROC WERE INTERRUPTED TRYING TO OBTAIN CONTAMINATED RWY DATA. ENRTE AFTER THINGS HAD CALMED DOWN THE CAPT READ THE CHKLIST PROC AND STATED THAT HE MISINTERPED THE RETURN TO GATE INSTRUCTION.
