Narrative:

On radar vectors to alo. Trying to find a smooth altitude, due to turbulence. ZKC gave turn ('turn left 10 degrees for traffic'). As PNF, I repeated instructions. A few mins later, center asked which way we turned and I repeated clearance and direction we turned. Center stated HSI clearance as being a 'right turn' clearance and that we had traffic going in opposite direction off our left side. Approximately at the same time center turned us back to the right, the TCASII gave a TA symbol and audible. After this correction, center passed us on to the next sector.

Title: ZKC CTLR QUESTIONS DC9 FLC ABOUT ASSIGNED TURN DIRECTION AS THEY RECEIVE A TCASII ALERT.

Narrative: ON RADAR VECTORS TO ALO. TRYING TO FIND A SMOOTH ALT, DUE TO TURB. ZKC GAVE TURN ('TURN L 10 DEGS FOR TFC'). AS PNF, I REPEATED INSTRUCTIONS. A FEW MINS LATER, CTR ASKED WHICH WAY WE TURNED AND I REPEATED CLRNC AND DIRECTION WE TURNED. CTR STATED HSI CLRNC AS BEING A 'R TURN' CLRNC AND THAT WE HAD TFC GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION OFF OUR L SIDE. APPROX AT THE SAME TIME CTR TURNED US BACK TO THE R, THE TCASII GAVE A TA SYMBOL AND AUDIBLE. AFTER THIS CORRECTION, CTR PASSED US ON TO THE NEXT SECTOR.
