Narrative:

Location: sju. Good WX, light winds. Takeoff on runway 8 normal until gear retraction. Got gear disagreement EICAS message -- gear and door lights. Left gear still showing down, green. Continued to fly vermo 4 departure, climbing to 5000 ft to sort things out. Decided to stay at 5000 ft, hold at carib, then return to base. Put gear handle down and showed 3 normal down, doors closed. Landed on runway 8 normally. Gross weight was below maximum landing. Crash fire rescue equipment met aircraft even though we said it would be a normal landing. Rescue 'B' followed us to gate. No further problem. Maintenance found a failed side brace strut actuator.
