Narrative:
On climb out, autoplt engaged, 8500 ft AGL, sun directly in face, poor visibility. ATC called traffic at 11000 ft and less than 5 mi crossing over top looking for traffic aircraft climb to 10350 ft. PF corrected by hand flying to 10000 ft. TA called only on TCASII. Autoplt FMA unsure. Contributing factor: sun. Traffic watch leveling off. PF disconnected and immediately corrected. New first officer. No real conflict.
