Narrative:

I was flying to butte, mt. Departed S73 for a 1 hour flight to butte. I flew from btm to S73 arriving XA30 same day. Tops were 9000 ft broken butte, mso to scattered. S73 clear. There is only radar above 14000 ft or so. 2 sets of mountains and rarely any WX or PIREPS. Very often VFR on top. I made the mistake of not returning to take off S73 sooner. I should have not climbed into class a airspace. I turned right and after clouds moved into S73 area reported WX was to do that. My decision to climb over and not return was the mistake. I was fortunate to have only broken clouds upon my return. I used my cell phone to get WX at (S84). It's a tough route VFR.
