Narrative:
Upon receiving final altitude from ATC to expect for oceanic crossing and then leveling off at FL340, I asked captain if I could leave the flight deck for my assigned break. Captain said he would go to lavatory first, and did so. I assumed his position and he left the cabin for a few mins. Primary radio was on cockpit speaker. He returned and I left the cockpit and remained in the cabin for about 2 hours. Upon returning to allow captain his scheduled break, I was told of a loss of communications with ATC while over the united kingdom and that intercept aircraft were sent toward us. It is possible a radio handoff was missed, but why we were not called on last known frequency is unclr. Supplemental information from acn 540137: lost communication with london control. Got ACARS message to contact london 129.72. Contacted london and told we were being intercepted. Asked if all was well. We said yes. Fighter intercept was called off. Flight continued. Did not see other aircraft. Lost communication 10-18 mins.
