Narrative:
Shortly after departure when the gear was selected up we got a 'gear disagree' message. After an abnormally long time the gear indicated 'up and locked.' after consulting with maintenance the decision was made to return to cvg. When the gear was selected down, we again got a 'gear disagree,' followed by a down and locked indication, again after an abnormally long period of time. We flew by for the crash fire rescue equipment crews to check and verify that the nose gear did appear down and locked, then returned for an uneventful landing at a weight that was over maximum landing weight. The passenger were informed that we would be returning to cvg for a landing gear problem, that we had declared an emergency and that after the fly-by the gear appeared to be down and locked. We stopped the plane on the taxiway after landing and maintenance pinned the gear to avoid possible collapse, after which the plane was taxied to the gate without further incident. Prior to departure from cvg, maintenance had changed the nose gear in response to a noise problem, and had deferred the 3A hydraulic pump for a hydraulic 3 high temperature message.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG LNDG GEAR RETRACTED VERY SLOWLY AFTER TKOF SO FLC DECLARED AN EMER AND RETURNED TO LAND AFTER CHKING WITH MAINT AND A LOW FLY-BY AFTER EXTENDING THE GEAR, WHICH ALSO WAS VERY SLOW TO LOCK IN THE DOWN POS.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER DEP WHEN THE GEAR WAS SELECTED UP WE GOT A 'GEAR DISAGREE' MESSAGE. AFTER AN ABNORMALLY LONG TIME THE GEAR INDICATED 'UP AND LOCKED.' AFTER CONSULTING WITH MAINT THE DECISION WAS MADE TO RETURN TO CVG. WHEN THE GEAR WAS SELECTED DOWN, WE AGAIN GOT A 'GEAR DISAGREE,' FOLLOWED BY A DOWN AND LOCKED INDICATION, AGAIN AFTER AN ABNORMALLY LONG PERIOD OF TIME. WE FLEW BY FOR THE CFR CREWS TO CHK AND VERIFY THAT THE NOSE GEAR DID APPEAR DOWN AND LOCKED, THEN RETURNED FOR AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG AT A WT THAT WAS OVER MAX LNDG WT. THE PAX WERE INFORMED THAT WE WOULD BE RETURNING TO CVG FOR A LNDG GEAR PROB, THAT WE HAD DECLARED AN EMER AND THAT AFTER THE FLY-BY THE GEAR APPEARED TO BE DOWN AND LOCKED. WE STOPPED THE PLANE ON THE TXWY AFTER LNDG AND MAINT PINNED THE GEAR TO AVOID POSSIBLE COLLAPSE, AFTER WHICH THE PLANE WAS TAXIED TO THE GATE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. PRIOR TO DEP FROM CVG, MAINT HAD CHANGED THE NOSE GEAR IN RESPONSE TO A NOISE PROB, AND HAD DEFERRED THE 3A HYD PUMP FOR A HYD 3 HIGH TEMP MESSAGE.
