Narrative:
Although I was not directly involved in the situation in main cabin, I was kept up-to-date by interphone. A main cabin passenger had been drinking and began bothering the flight attendants, asking for more drinks. He was told no. At some point he asked to smoke, was told no, and began lighting a cigarette lighter in the flight attendant's face. It seems clear to me that people do very stupid things when drinking. Our planes are becoming packed to capacity again, and due to low fares, many passenger are not used to air travel. The planes are full, but company is removing the 'extra flight attendants' to save money. There simply aren't enough of 'us' to keep 'them' in check -- especially after numerous free drinks. My solution would be to give passenger a few drink coupons with their ticket, either at check-in or with the purchase of the ticket directly. I believe this would drastically reduce the number of incidents that are alcohol related, and end the liquor 'free for all' that the lower end fare passenger expect.

Title: ALLEGED PAX MISCONDUCT BY AN INTOXICATED PAX WHO, WANTING TO SMOKE AND TOLD NO, WAS LIGHTING A CIGARETTE LIGHTER IN THE FACE OF A MAIN CABIN FLT ATTENDANT ON A TRANSATLANTIC FLT TO JFK, NY.
Narrative: ALTHOUGH I WAS NOT DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN THE SIT IN MAIN CABIN, I WAS KEPT UP-TO-DATE BY INTERPHONE. A MAIN CABIN PAX HAD BEEN DRINKING AND BEGAN BOTHERING THE FLT ATTENDANTS, ASKING FOR MORE DRINKS. HE WAS TOLD NO. AT SOME POINT HE ASKED TO SMOKE, WAS TOLD NO, AND BEGAN LIGHTING A CIGARETTE LIGHTER IN THE FLT ATTENDANT'S FACE. IT SEEMS CLR TO ME THAT PEOPLE DO VERY STUPID THINGS WHEN DRINKING. THERE SIMPLY AREN'T ENOUGH OF 'US' TO KEEP 'THEM' IN CHK -- ESPECIALLY AFTER NUMEROUS FREE DRINKS. MY SOLUTION WOULD BE TO GIVE PAX A FEW DRINK COUPONS WITH THEIR TICKET, EITHER AT CHK-IN OR WITH THE PURCHASE OF THE TICKET DIRECTLY. I BELIEVE THIS WOULD DRASTICALLY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF INCIDENTS THAT ARE ALCOHOL RELATED, AND END THE LIQUOR 'FREE FOR ALL' THAT THE LOWER END FARE PAX EXPECT.
