Narrative:
Runway 36, the runway favored on the day of occurrence had a NOTAM for runway closure. Our aircraft left rmg and landed 30 mins prior to auo's reopening of the runway. We thought the NOTAM had expired as there were no X's on the runway, the AWOS which usually relays NOTAMS for runway closures didn't state it was closed. There were no men or equipment near or on the runway, and macon FSS did not tell us about the NOTAM during our preflight WX briefing prior to flight, even when we specifically asked about NOTAMS along the route. We did not know we had violated the NOTAM until the FBO informed us after the flight. A contributing factor may have been the FBO's inability to contact us over the CTAF, to inform us of the NOTAM, even though our radios worked fine the entire flight. No one was hurt, at no time was safety compromised. Our radios worked with rome traffic, ZTL, macon FSS, atlanta approach, and auburn traffic.

Title: UNAUTH LNDG ON A CLOSED RWY AT A NON TWR ARPT BY A TRAINING FLT IN A C172 AT AUO, AL.
Narrative: RWY 36, THE RWY FAVORED ON THE DAY OF OCCURRENCE HAD A NOTAM FOR RWY CLOSURE. OUR ACFT LEFT RMG AND LANDED 30 MINS PRIOR TO AUO'S REOPENING OF THE RWY. WE THOUGHT THE NOTAM HAD EXPIRED AS THERE WERE NO X'S ON THE RWY, THE AWOS WHICH USUALLY RELAYS NOTAMS FOR RWY CLOSURES DIDN'T STATE IT WAS CLOSED. THERE WERE NO MEN OR EQUIP NEAR OR ON THE RWY, AND MACON FSS DID NOT TELL US ABOUT THE NOTAM DURING OUR PREFLT WX BRIEFING PRIOR TO FLT, EVEN WHEN WE SPECIFICALLY ASKED ABOUT NOTAMS ALONG THE RTE. WE DID NOT KNOW WE HAD VIOLATED THE NOTAM UNTIL THE FBO INFORMED US AFTER THE FLT. A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR MAY HAVE BEEN THE FBO'S INABILITY TO CONTACT US OVER THE CTAF, TO INFORM US OF THE NOTAM, EVEN THOUGH OUR RADIOS WORKED FINE THE ENTIRE FLT. NO ONE WAS HURT, AT NO TIME WAS SAFETY COMPROMISED. OUR RADIOS WORKED WITH ROME TFC, ZTL, MACON FSS, ATLANTA APCH, AND AUBURN TFC.
