Narrative:
On taxi out to runway 9 in bos, we were given a taxi clearance of taxiway K, taxiway west, taxiway south, hold short of runway 4L. We were following a B737. As we approached the hold short line, we proceeded past the hold short line by a distance of about 5 ft. We immediately informed tower that we had crossed the hold short line. Tower cleared us across runway 4L to hold short of runway 9. No conflict with another aircraft at any time. An idea to prevent a recurrence would be a better marking of hold short line at runway 4L.
