Narrative:

Gfms was placarded OTS. This also takes the GPWS OTS. I did not see the GPWS placard in the logbook until it was time for the terrain briefing at the end of the runway for takeoff. Upon checking the MEL, I realized the aircraft was not legal for flts into mexico without the GPWS. We taxied back to the gate and substituted aircraft. Suggest aircraft with FMS not be dispatched to mexico if FMS is OTS, as it is tied into the egpws.

Title: RETURN TO THE GATE FOR AN MD80 PIC WHEN HE REALIZES THAT HIS INOP GFMS MAKES THE GPWS INOP. NOT A GOOD THING OR LEGAL FOR OPS INTO MEX, FO.

Narrative: GFMS WAS PLACARDED OTS. THIS ALSO TAKES THE GPWS OTS. I DID NOT SEE THE GPWS PLACARD IN THE LOGBOOK UNTIL IT WAS TIME FOR THE TERRAIN BRIEFING AT THE END OF THE RWY FOR TKOF. UPON CHKING THE MEL, I REALIZED THE ACFT WAS NOT LEGAL FOR FLTS INTO MEXICO WITHOUT THE GPWS. WE TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE AND SUBSTITUTED ACFT. SUGGEST ACFT WITH FMS NOT BE DISPATCHED TO MEXICO IF FMS IS OTS, AS IT IS TIED INTO THE EGPWS.
