Narrative:
High trees at approach end of runway 34 pose a hazard to landing aircraft. Condition has been brought to the attention of airport operators yet no action has been taken in 3 yrs. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter said that the FAA airport standards inspection team made a recommendation about 3 yrs ago to either remove or trim the trees that are about 250 ft from the end of runway 34. All the other runways are free of this hazard and have VASI. Runway 34 does not have a VASI. He stated that other pilots recognize the danger involved. He estimated that the landing gear would clear these trees by about 6 ft for an approach to runway 34. He further stated that he believed that the state airport commission was the agency responsible for action and the non-action on the previous FAA recommendations. He was not certain of the tree's heights and could not cite any accidents related to these trees.
