Narrative:

On apr/thu/02, at approximately XA20 local, we received clearance from teb ground control to taxi from the ramp to runway 24 via taxiway P to hold short of taxiway C. My sic was handling the radios. My sic read back the taxi clearance. I heard ground control issue clearance to a piper navajo to follow us to runway 24. Due to a distraction from the cabin, my sic totally missed the fact that I failed to hold short of taxiway C. I became aware of my error just as I passed taxiway C. I immediately slowed the aircraft and decided that I should exit taxiway P onto a totally vacant ramp to my left in order to prevent any further complications for ground control. Upon exiting the taxiway I noted that the piper navajo had taxied past taxiway C and was continuing along taxiway P. We notified ground control of my error and position. The ground controller immediately became very agitated and used profanities to admonish us as a crew. He proceeded to tell us that we had put him in a very bad situation and that he could not even legally clear us onto the ramp we had entered. As he continued to scold us as a crew we noticed that the piper navajo was continuing on his merry way down taxiway P. Our verbal beating finally ended and we were cleared back onto taxiway P to hold short or runway 19 behind the navajo on our way to runway 24. As we approached runway 19 behind the piper navajo, I noticed a hawker holding short of taxiway P just ahead of us to our left. Ground control told the hawker to taxi to runway 24 behind the navajo. Ground control never told us to give way to the hawker and we had to make an abrupt stop to avoid a potential collision. It seems to me that not only did the controller succeed in distracting and humbling us as a crew, he also lost his concentration regarding his duties. As a crew we allowed a distraction in the cabin to divert our concentration. Lesson learned.

Title: DURING TAXI AIR CREW MAKES ABRUPT STOP TO AVOID GND COLLISION.

Narrative: ON APR/THU/02, AT APPROX XA20 LCL, WE RECEIVED CLRNC FROM TEB GND CTL TO TAXI FROM THE RAMP TO RWY 24 VIA TXWY P TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY C. MY SIC WAS HANDLING THE RADIOS. MY SIC READ BACK THE TAXI CLRNC. I HEARD GND CTL ISSUE CLRNC TO A PIPER NAVAJO TO FOLLOW US TO RWY 24. DUE TO A DISTR FROM THE CABIN, MY SIC TOTALLY MISSED THE FACT THAT I FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY C. I BECAME AWARE OF MY ERROR JUST AS I PASSED TXWY C. I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED THE ACFT AND DECIDED THAT I SHOULD EXIT TXWY P ONTO A TOTALLY VACANT RAMP TO MY L IN ORDER TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER COMPLICATIONS FOR GND CTL. UPON EXITING THE TXWY I NOTED THAT THE PIPER NAVAJO HAD TAXIED PAST TXWY C AND WAS CONTINUING ALONG TXWY P. WE NOTIFIED GND CTL OF MY ERROR AND POS. THE GND CTLR IMMEDIATELY BECAME VERY AGITATED AND USED PROFANITIES TO ADMONISH US AS A CREW. HE PROCEEDED TO TELL US THAT WE HAD PUT HIM IN A VERY BAD SIT AND THAT HE COULD NOT EVEN LEGALLY CLR US ONTO THE RAMP WE HAD ENTERED. AS HE CONTINUED TO SCOLD US AS A CREW WE NOTICED THAT THE PIPER NAVAJO WAS CONTINUING ON HIS MERRY WAY DOWN TXWY P. OUR VERBAL BEATING FINALLY ENDED AND WE WERE CLRED BACK ONTO TXWY P TO HOLD SHORT OR RWY 19 BEHIND THE NAVAJO ON OUR WAY TO RWY 24. AS WE APCHED RWY 19 BEHIND THE PIPER NAVAJO, I NOTICED A HAWKER HOLDING SHORT OF TXWY P JUST AHEAD OF US TO OUR L. GND CTL TOLD THE HAWKER TO TAXI TO RWY 24 BEHIND THE NAVAJO. GND CTL NEVER TOLD US TO GIVE WAY TO THE HAWKER AND WE HAD TO MAKE AN ABRUPT STOP TO AVOID A POTENTIAL COLLISION. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT NOT ONLY DID THE CTLR SUCCEED IN DISTRACTING AND HUMBLING US AS A CREW, HE ALSO LOST HIS CONCENTRATION REGARDING HIS DUTIES. AS A CREW WE ALLOWED A DISTR IN THE CABIN TO DIVERT OUR CONCENTRATION. LESSON LEARNED.
