Narrative:

Normal approach and landing on runway 31L at psp. Turned left onto taxiway H where I saw hold bars well down taxiway. Switched to ground frequency where controller was busy issuing clearance to another aircraft listening on the clearance delivery frequency, so I stopped at the hold bars and waited in silence until I heard controller say 'readback correct,' then contacted ground for taxi instructions. Controller commented, 'next time pull past the hold line.' taxi proceeded without further incident. What I thought I saw for taxiway markings on taxiway H were 2 solid lines followed by 2 dashed lines and because the hold lines were well down the taxiway, my aircraft was well clear of runway 31L. I tried to verify visually the markings, but my aircraft had pulled over the top of the lines blocking the view, but I can only assume from the controller's comment that the markings were dashed lines followed by solid ones, reversed from what I had initially perceived. Knowing the importance of taxi operations, this really surprised me. I was somewhat distraction by politely waiting for the controller to finish the clearance before issuing further taxi instructions, a little bit more distraction by my passenger beginning to 'chatter' after the silence during landing, and my own frame of mind which relaxed after completing the landing and a flight through the complex los angeles basin airspace. This has taught me to keep my concentration up until the aircraft has been shut down at the ramp. Perhaps another contributing factor is the low time in the cockpit since 09/tue/02. I feel I just need to fly more to keep sharp on procedure details.

Title: MOONEY MARK 20 PLT STOPPED TOO SOON ON TXWY AFTER LEAVING RWY RESULTING IN THE CTLR REMINDING HIM TO STOP PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE.

Narrative: NORMAL APCH AND LNDG ON RWY 31L AT PSP. TURNED L ONTO TXWY H WHERE I SAW HOLD BARS WELL DOWN TXWY. SWITCHED TO GND FREQ WHERE CTLR WAS BUSY ISSUING CLRNC TO ANOTHER ACFT LISTENING ON THE CLRNC DELIVERY FREQ, SO I STOPPED AT THE HOLD BARS AND WAITED IN SILENCE UNTIL I HEARD CTLR SAY 'READBACK CORRECT,' THEN CONTACTED GND FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. CTLR COMMENTED, 'NEXT TIME PULL PAST THE HOLD LINE.' TAXI PROCEEDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. WHAT I THOUGHT I SAW FOR TXWY MARKINGS ON TXWY H WERE 2 SOLID LINES FOLLOWED BY 2 DASHED LINES AND BECAUSE THE HOLD LINES WERE WELL DOWN THE TXWY, MY ACFT WAS WELL CLR OF RWY 31L. I TRIED TO VERIFY VISUALLY THE MARKINGS, BUT MY ACFT HAD PULLED OVER THE TOP OF THE LINES BLOCKING THE VIEW, BUT I CAN ONLY ASSUME FROM THE CTLR'S COMMENT THAT THE MARKINGS WERE DASHED LINES FOLLOWED BY SOLID ONES, REVERSED FROM WHAT I HAD INITIALLY PERCEIVED. KNOWING THE IMPORTANCE OF TAXI OPS, THIS REALLY SURPRISED ME. I WAS SOMEWHAT DISTR BY POLITELY WAITING FOR THE CTLR TO FINISH THE CLRNC BEFORE ISSUING FURTHER TAXI INSTRUCTIONS, A LITTLE BIT MORE DISTR BY MY PAX BEGINNING TO 'CHATTER' AFTER THE SILENCE DURING LNDG, AND MY OWN FRAME OF MIND WHICH RELAXED AFTER COMPLETING THE LNDG AND A FLT THROUGH THE COMPLEX LOS ANGELES BASIN AIRSPACE. THIS HAS TAUGHT ME TO KEEP MY CONCENTRATION UP UNTIL THE ACFT HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN AT THE RAMP. PERHAPS ANOTHER CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IS THE LOW TIME IN THE COCKPIT SINCE 09/TUE/02. I FEEL I JUST NEED TO FLY MORE TO KEEP SHARP ON PROC DETAILS.
