Narrative:

When given clearance for takeoff from atl's runway 26L, my readback to tower was 'cleared for takeoff runway 26L, heading 265 degrees at the marker.' tower never corrected my error. (The heading should have been 285 degrees at the marker.) shortly after takeoff, tower had us 'contact departure.' my initial contact with approach I only stated my atl information. Less than 1 min later, approach asked us our heading. I replied with 'heading 265 degrees.' he quickly gave us a heading of 300 degrees and proceeded to tell us to never turn left off that runway. I advised him that our assigned heading was 265 degrees. There was no further discussion of the incident between myself and the controller. My incorrect readback was not caught by tower. (This was confirmed by my captain.) my initial contact with approach should have included my heading. Setting the heading bug with the appropriate heading prior to the readback could have reduced the chance of error.

Title: REGIONAL JET 200 FLC TURNED TO THE WRONG HDG DURING INITIAL CLB DUE TO AN INCORRECT READBACK.

Narrative: WHEN GIVEN CLRNC FOR TKOF FROM ATL'S RWY 26L, MY READBACK TO TWR WAS 'CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 26L, HDG 265 DEGS AT THE MARKER.' TWR NEVER CORRECTED MY ERROR. (THE HDG SHOULD HAVE BEEN 285 DEGS AT THE MARKER.) SHORTLY AFTER TKOF, TWR HAD US 'CONTACT DEP.' MY INITIAL CONTACT WITH APCH I ONLY STATED MY ATL INFO. LESS THAN 1 MIN LATER, APCH ASKED US OUR HDG. I REPLIED WITH 'HDG 265 DEGS.' HE QUICKLY GAVE US A HDG OF 300 DEGS AND PROCEEDED TO TELL US TO NEVER TURN L OFF THAT RWY. I ADVISED HIM THAT OUR ASSIGNED HDG WAS 265 DEGS. THERE WAS NO FURTHER DISCUSSION OF THE INCIDENT BTWN MYSELF AND THE CTLR. MY INCORRECT READBACK WAS NOT CAUGHT BY TWR. (THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY MY CAPT.) MY INITIAL CONTACT WITH APCH SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED MY HDG. SETTING THE HDG BUG WITH THE APPROPRIATE HDG PRIOR TO THE READBACK COULD HAVE REDUCED THE CHANCE OF ERROR.
