Narrative:
Cleared for takeoff on runway 22R intersection west. On climbing through 4200 ft MSL, departure control informed crew that the 2500 ft restr on ewr 7 departure was in effect. Crew did not annotate this on reviewing pre departure clearance and so altitude bust was almost inevitable at that point. Asked approach/departure control if they wanted us to descend to 2500 ft. They said 'no.' remainder of flight was uneventful. Both pilots did not adequately review the pre departure clearance. Ensure both pilots review pre departure clearance and concur on required actions.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-500 CREW, DEPARTING EWR, OVERSHOT AN ATC IMPOSED ALT RESTR WHILE FLYING THE EWR 7 DEP.
Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 22R INTXN W. ON CLBING THROUGH 4200 FT MSL, DEP CTL INFORMED CREW THAT THE 2500 FT RESTR ON EWR 7 DEP WAS IN EFFECT. CREW DID NOT ANNOTATE THIS ON REVIEWING PDC AND SO ALT BUST WAS ALMOST INEVITABLE AT THAT POINT. ASKED APCH/DEP CTL IF THEY WANTED US TO DSND TO 2500 FT. THEY SAID 'NO.' REMAINDER OF FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. BOTH PLTS DID NOT ADEQUATELY REVIEW THE PDC. ENSURE BOTH PLTS REVIEW PDC AND CONCUR ON REQUIRED ACTIONS.
